Sven Smit is a Senior Partner in the Amsterdam Office of McKinsey & Company.
He led our Western European region for 4 years after having led the global Strategy Practice for 7 years. Sven is a member of the Global Partnership Service Team in a role focused on the firm’s strategy and enhancing client service. He is also a member of McKinsey’s Shareholders Council and McKinsey’s Global Institute Council.
Sven meets clients across all sectors in his various roles and brings “pattern recognition” from across these sectors. He has decades of experience in serving Telecom, high-tech and industrial companies across the globe.
On Strategy, Sven is an expert on growth and performance as a co-author of “Granularity of Growth” and has wide and deep experience in Corporate Strategy and transformation at enterprise wide scale. Sven is co-author of the recently launched “Strategy Beyond the Hockeystick”, a book which provides practical advice on how to change the dynamics in the strategy room and advance the state of the art in strategic management.
Sven leads our perspective on the global economy, and develops global and country GDP scenario's leveraging our unique global growth model, anchored by 130 variables of consistent statistics over 30 years.
Education
Sven is a Mechanical Engineer with a degree from Delft University of Technology and holds an INSEADM.B.A. Prior to joining McKinsey (in 1992) Sven worked at Philips Research Laboratories (Measurement and Control) as an Engineer/Researcher.
