Hungary's Economy Minister upbeat on 2017 growth

Hungary's economic growth could be significantly above an earlier 3.1% estimate, while inflation is likely to slightly exceed the previous estimate, Economy Minister Mihaly Varga told a parliamentary committee hearing on Thursday.
Varga did not specify new figures but said the government would unveil fresh economic projections in the next weeks, Reuters reported.

He added that inflation could accelerate to 1.6% in 2017 after years of hovering around zero.

Earlier on Thursday, the government extended a stimulus programme for the 2017 pre-election year with a rebate of a financial transaction tax for banks.Local weekly Figyelő has reported today that the Economy Ministry expects Hungary’s economic growth to come in at around 4.0% next year.
