Vittas Dimitri

Dimitri Vittas, former Senior Adviser at the World Bank, has specialized on financial sector development with particular emphasis on the promotion and regulation of pension funds, insurance companies and mutual funds. He has published many working papers on these topics and was a member of the teams that produced the 1989 World Development Report on “Financial Systems and Development” and the1994 World Bank report on “Averting the Old Age Crisis”. In recent years, he participated in the pilot program that provided Technical Assistance on public debt issues in twelve low and middle income countries and was the main author of Debt Market Development, one of two reports that summarized the findings of the pilot program. His other recent work covers second generation issues in pension reform, including the organization of individual accounts and the development of annuity markets, the modernization of the investment policy framework of public pension funds, and the interface between pension funds and securities markets.
