Frozen pizza sales go through the roof in Hungary

Portfolio
Frozen pizza is apparently a really hot item in Hungary: a total of 18 million frosty pasta circles were sold in the value of over eight billion forints between July 2017 and June 2018, Nielsen said in a statement on Wednesday.
The epitome of the Italian cuisine is particularly popular in Hungary in its frozen form. Sales of frozen pizza jumped 17% to HUF 8 billion in the aforementioned period. This corresponds to 6,000 tonnes of pizza, a growth of 12% in annual terms.

As for the different toppings, pizza with ham was the most popular, accounting for one quarter of total sales. The next in line were salami pizza and those with other toppings (Hawaii (with pineapple), Four Cheeses, etc.) Besides the simplest of pizzas with no other topping than cheese, pizza Margherita (tomatoes, mozzarella, basil, olive oil) has also made it to the Top5.

Frozen pizza is not affected by seasonality and its sales keep on climbing. 42% of sales (in value) are realised in Budapest and its surroundings, while the lowest sales are recorded in the southwest part of the country. More than two thirds of all frozen pizzas sold in Hungary (68 out of 100) are purchased in discount retail stores and supermarkets.
