Hungary has no near-term plans for Eurobond issuance - debt office
The announcement is no surprise, given that one of the objectives of the state is to keep lowering the country’s foreign currency debt. That is why it has been refraining from major Eurobond issuances for years. However, the Government Debt Management Agency (ÁKK) did go to the market with smaller issuances (and had bond swaps too), which primarily served market building purposes. It is not useless to have the right amount of instruments on the market that could lead to some meaningful pricing. This helps issuances should it come to that, and the market’s assessment of the country risk is also quantifiable, which is useful information.
