Hungarian movie director Kristóf Deák and producer Anna Udvardy won the Oscar in the short film category with their film Sing (Mindenki) at the 89th Academy Awards in Los Angeles on Sunday night. This is the first time a Hungarian live action short film is awarded the golden statuette by the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences.
In his acceptance speech, Kristóf Deák, the director of the childhood drama, thanked the Academy, his family and his teachers. “I am dedicating this award to all those people that can make this world a better place, the children. Let’s try to bring them up well so we can be proud of them," he said.

This is Hungary’s fourth Oscar. The first was won by Ferenc Rófusz for his animinated short The Fly at the 53rd Academy Awards in 1981. Director Istán Szabó’s Mephisto was next in 1982 in the Best Foreign Language Film category and László Nemes Jeles’s Holocaust film Son of Saul won in the same category in 2016.Prime Minister Viktor Orbán congratulated for the award on his Facebook page: “
Wow! Two Oscars in two years. Congratulations to everyone who took part in the production of the movie," he posted.

We have also witnessed the greatest flub in the history of the Oscars, when presenters Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway announced the night’s biggest award going to frontrunner La La Land. Producers Jordan Horowitz and Mark Platt have already delivered their acceptance speeches and Fred Burger was in the middle of his speech when he learned from the cast and crew behind him the truth and said: “We lost by the way."

Horowitz took over and said: “There’s a mistake. Moonlight, you guys won best picture. This is not a joke, come up here."

Horowitz showed huge class saying “I’m gonna be really proud to hand this to my friends from Moonlight."

The mix-up was that the envelope the presenters were handed the wrong envelope that bore the text “Emma Stone, La La Land". Stone had won Best Actress moments before. There is a procedure for such cases but Beatty, who was clearly flummoxed by what he read, and Dunaway decided to go ahead. It was chaos, it has never happened in the 89-year history of the Oscars.

Casey Affleck won Best Actor for his role in Manchester by the Sea. Also Damien Chazelle won for directing La La Land
