Anita Fürstenberg-Lucius holds an Economics degree of the Vienna University of Economics and Business and a MBA from INSEAD, France.
She started her banking career at Bank Austria (then Länderbank) in 1988, and held positions in international project finance in New York and Vienna.
She joined the EIB in 1995 as credit officer in the Credit Risk Department. In 2002 she was nominated Head of the Infrastructure Unit of the Credit Risk Department, with responsibility for the credit risk assessment of the Bank’s activities in the telecom, transport and urban and social development sectors.
In 2005 she was promoted to Head of Division for Lending Operations in Germany (banks and corporates), and was appointed Head of the Baltic Sea Department in 2011, responsible for the EIB’s lending operations in Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Denmark, Sweden, Finland and the EFTA countries. From January 2015 she was heading the Western Europe Department, responsible for lending operations in France, Belgium, Luxembourg, United Kingdom, Ireland, the Netherlands, Switzerland and Liechtenstein.
She was recently appointed to head the Central and South Eastern Europe Department with effect 1st September 2017, dealing with lending operations in Bulgaria, Cyprus, Hungary, Czech Republic, Romania, Slovakia and Turkey.
