A graduate of University of Economics, Budapest in 1975, P. A. Bod worked for economic policy research institute TGI in Budapest as analyst, later head of department. In 1989, he entered politics as advisor for opposition party MDF, was elected to Hungarian Parliament in 1990, in the first free elections after the regime change, and joined the cabinet as Minister of Industry and Trade. He was appointed Governor of the Hungarian central bank MNB in 1991. Leaving public service, he joined the Board of Directors of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, London in 1995, then returned to academia in 1998 as economics professor. He has been teaching graduate, post graduate and executive level courses at Corvinus University of Budapest where he is professor emeritus.
Dr Bod is active as editorial board member of professional journals, vice-president of the Hungarian Economic Society, head of the supervisory board of Transparency International Hungary, of research institute GKI, member of board of directors of Akadémiai Publishing House. He is a Doctor of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, a prolific author of books, textbooks and research articles.
