Mr. Kovács has been Deputy State Secretary of the Finance Ministry since 2001, a position he filled also between 1990 and 1993. Prior to his present position, he was Managing Director of the National Bank of Hungary between 1999 and 2001 and was its Vice President between 1993 and 1999. After graduating from the Budapest Univesity of Economics in 1965, he started his carrier at the Computer Application Research Institute where he spent 17 years, followed by eight years ending in 1990 in the National Office of Planning. Mr. Kovács, fluent in English and French, is author of several articles and books in the topics of operation research and economics, and has candidacy in economic sciences.
