János Lázár

János Lázár was born in 1975, in Hódmezővásárhely. He studied law in Szeged, at the Faculty of Law of the József Attila University, from where he graduated in 1999. From 1995 he was a legal intern for the Town Hall of the Municipality of Hódmezővásárhely, and then he was an associate of the then mayor, András Rapcsák, between 1997 and 2002. He was the mayor of Hódmezővásárhely between 2002 and 2012. He was elected Member of the Parliament in the constituency number 6 of Csongrád County in 2002, where he was re-elected in 2006, 2010, and 2014. He was the notary of the Parliament in 2002-2004. Between 2006 and 2010 he was president of the Parliament’s Defense and Law Enforcement Committee. He has been a member of Fidesz since 2000, from 2005 he was the party’s Csongrád County president, and between 2006 and 2010 he was deputy head of the Fidesz parliamentary group as well as head of the Defense Cabinet of Fidesz-KDNP. He was the head of the Fidesz parliamentary group between 2010 and 2012. Since September 2013 he has been vice-president of Fidesz. From 2 June 2012 he was the state secretary leading the Prime Minister’s Office, and from 1 August 2013 he was also the government commissioner in charge of heading the National Development Agency. Since June 2014 he has been the minister leading the Prime Minister’s Office. He is married with two children.
