Job title: Deputy Head of the “Strategy, Policy Coordination and Planning, Inter-institutional Relations"
Antonio Lopez-Nicolas serves as the Deputy Head of Unit for Strategy, Policy Coordination, and Interinstitutional Relations at the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Energy (DG ENER). In his current role, he has coordinated the preparation of the Action Plan for Affordable Energy, adopted alongside the Clean Industrial Deal. He has also led interinstitutional negotiations on the Renewable Energy Directive and played a key role as well as several policy initiatives, including the Wind Power Package and the Energy System Integration and Hydrogen strategies.
Before joining the European Commission, Lopez-Nicolas worked at the European Network of Transmission System Operators for Electricity (ENTSO-E) as Head of the Market Unit, overseeing European network code development, market design, and transparency issues.
He is an electrical engineer with additional studies in economics and management and has extensive professional experience in various managerial positions within the energy sector.
