Avian influenza detected in another Hungarian county, vehicle and passenger traffic should be minimised
The H5N1 subtype of the highly pathogenic avian influenza virus, often called 'bird flu', was detected by the Nébih laboratory in a flock of 2,500 geese bred for their liver in the village of Öcsöd in Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok county.
Increased mortality on the farm has led to the suspicion of avian influenza. The affected flocks are being culled and a protection zone of 3 km radius and a surveillance zone of 10 km radius have been established around the farm.
Cases confirmed this week show that the highly pathogenic avian influenza virus can appear anywhere in the country.
To achieve this, vehicle and passenger traffic must be kept to a minimum, and the epidemiological standards must not only be met, but also kept in operation. Poultry must be fed and watered in an enclosed area and feed and litter must be stored in an enclosed area.
