Hungarian energy group Mol is to raise fuel prices further on Wednesday (10 April), holtnakoljak.hu reported on Monday.

From Wednesday, domestic fuel prices will continue to rise, with the wholesale gross list price of petrol going up by HUF 3 per litre, while gasoline will cost HUF 6 gross more. Pumps implemented last week's price change differently, resulting in a lower than expected average price for petrol at the moment (641 Ft/litre), so average prices after Wednesday's price change could be as follows:

  • 95-octane petrol: HUF 644 / litre
  • diesel: HUF 658 / litre

The price of petrol is going to be higher not only than at the end of last year (+13.0% or +HUF 74), but also than at the end of 2022 (+0.8% or +HUF 5). The price of diesel will have gone up 11.0% (HUF 65 per litre) this year come Wednesday. Diesel was last this expensive (HUF 660) on 10 October last year.

The difference between petrol and diesel prices dropped to its lowest (HUF 7) since early September (HUF 8) last Friday (HUF 7), but will be back at HUF 14 on 10 April. The trend in 2024, however, is clear.

The longer-term charts show a different picture. Diesel was cheaper than petrol between April and August 2023 and in early June 2022.
