Israel had 760 coronavirus patients in serious condition at the peak of the current 'wave', but as a result of the booster shots of COVID-19 vaccines it has managed to lower this number considerably. There were 96 people with SARS-CoV-2 infection in hospitals on Wednesday, with 54 of them on ventilators.

There are 7,119 Covid patients in hospital in Hungary, with 810 of them needing mechanical ventilation.

About 80% of those in serious condition have not received even a single dose of a COVID-19 vaccine.

Israel, a country with a population of 9.4 million, diagnosed 1,338,486 people with coronavirus infection since the outbreak. The number of active cases is currently 5,971, with 134 of them in hospital.

Hungary, a country with a population of 9.73 million, diagnosed 1,176,038 people with coronavirus infection since the outbreak. The number of active cases is currently 184,527, with 7,119 of them in hospital.

For Wednesday, Israel reported 651 new COVID-19 cases, having performed more than 100,000 tests. The positivity rate came in at 0.69%, which compares with over 8.0% at the peak of the current 'wave' in early September. The relatively high number of new cases is relating to the fact that masses of children returning to school after Chanukah have been tested.

For Wednesday, Hungary reported 7,310 new COVID-19 cases, having performed over 33,000 tests. The percent positive is 22%. It was over 33% on Monday and over 36% on 30 Nov.

The reproduction rate in Israel is 1.09, i.e. 100 infected people can transmit virus to 109 people. The R number has been around or slightly above 1.0 since 21 November, but before that it had been below that mark since early September.

In Hungary, the reproduction rate was 1.14 on 4 Dec.

Since the end of December 2020, Israel inoculated nearly 6.4 million people older than five with at least one dose of Pfizer-BioNTech's COVID-19 vaccine Comirnaty, which corresponds to 68.71% of the population. Israel has been vaccinating children aged between 5 and 11 since 23 November, and booster doses for those that were fully vaccinated more than five months earlier have been available since August.

A total of 4,112,353 people received their third jab so far.

In Hungary, 6.17 million people received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, which translates into 64% of the population. A total of 2,864,506 third doses have been administered so far.

SARS-CoV-2-related diseases claimed 8,210 lives since last February. The death toll went up by seven in over the last seven days in Israel.

The death toll in Hungary is up at 36,263. On Wednesday, 215 people succumbed to the disease.
