COVID-19 in Hungary: less than 2,000 people in hospital

There were 633 new coronavirus (COVID-19) infections confirmed in the past 24 hours, with the total since last March now increasing to 799,588. The death toll rose to 29,329 after the disease claimed the lives of 52 patients.

The 633 new cases were somewhat higher than the previous two days’ figures, but the seven-day rolling average continues to decrease.

There were 52 fatalities yesterday, decreasing the seven-day average to 63.

The number of coronavirus patients treated in hospital has now decreased under 2,000.

There are currently 1,998 people in hospital, with 224 of them on ventilator. This means the numbers decreased by 289 and 27, respectively, in a day and by 1,066 and 137 in a week.

Authorities applied 14,662 tests in the past 24 hours, slightly more than 4% of which came back positive. This positivity rate is now well below the WHO recommendation.

As for vaccination, 4,790,996 people have received a first dose and 2,774,416 got both jabs. The numbers increased by more than 76,000 and 25,000, respectively.

This means vaccination coverage in Hungary is now 49.04% of the population for the first shot and 28.4% for the second.
