COVID-19 in Hungary: 256 dead on Wednesday
With the 5,307 new cases yesterday, the number of people infected by the virus since last March rose to 736,982. Although the daily figure is higher than in the preceding three days and has broken the falling trend of the seven-day rolling average, it is too early to talk about a reversal.
The disease claimed the lives of 256, mostly elderly or chronic, patients, increasing the death toll to 24,521. There has been no substantial change in this regard as fatalities will probably follow the decline of the pandemic curve with a delay.
There are currently 9,848 coronavirus patients in hospital, down more than 500 in a day.
The last time coronavirus patient numbers were below 10,000 was nearly a month ago on 16 March.
There are 1,156 people on ventilator, 48 fewer than 24 hours earlier.
The number of test applied yesterday was 21,942, which means the 5,300 new cases would correspond to a nearly 25% positivity rate, a marked increase form previous days. This might be a correction as the ration was surprisingly low, around 10%, the day before.
The number of people vaccinated in Hungary is 3.09 million, and 1.3 million of them have already received both doses.
