COVID-19 in Hungary: Fatalities remain high
We are apparently past the peak of the third wave as the number of new cases has been dropping in recent days. Meanwhile, Tuesday morning’s figures are typically lower due to the weekend effect, and the number of new cases was the same yesterday as a week earlier, so overall we can say that the pandemic curve is not rising at least. Although the peaks of 10,000 or more new cases a day are now behind us, the virus is still spreading fast in the community.
There were 272 coronavirus-related deaths in the past 24 hours, and the seven-day moving average has reached a new peak of nearly 270.
The number of people on ventilators was 1,209 yesterday, while the total number of coronavirus patients treated in hospital rose further, which means pressure on the health care system remains very high.
The number of people vaccinated stood at 2,969,647, which means Hungary has not reached the “magic” 3 million threshold where the government could decide on the further easing of restrictions. (This will almost certainly be reached today.) Meanwhile, 1,250,582 people have already received both shots.
According to the report, 15, 467 tests were applied yesterday, 18% of which came back positive.
