COVID-19: New cases at all-time high in Hungary
Hungary's 9,011 new confirmed COVID-19 cases marks a new record. At the peak of the second wave last November, the highest number of daily cases was 6,819.
130 people have died of coronavirus-related diseases in the past 24 hours, down from 158, 179, and 172 in the past three days, respectively. The one-week moving average also dropped slightly. The death toll is 16,627.
Following a stagnation for a couple of days, the number of people with coronavirus infection requiring hospital care jumped by 389 to 8,718, and 949 of them are on ventilators.
Authorities performed 36,796 COVID-19 tests in the past 24 hours, an outstanding number, but nearly 25% of them came back positive which also indicates the ascending trajectory of the pandemic.
1,229,827 people have been vaccinated against COVID-19 in Hungary so far, of whom 351,694 have received their second jab.
These figures translate into 12.6% and 3.6% of the population, respectively.
