COVID-19: Nearly 1,500 new cases, 83 deaths in Hungary
There were 1,459 new COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours in Hungary. The epidemic curve has been flattening but the number of new daily confirmed cases remains high.
The 7-day moving average also shows that the transmission rate has been receding. We're now at about the same level as we were before the restrictions were announced in mid-November.
83 people died of coronavirus-related diseases yesterday. While it is no consolence for them or their families, the worst might just be over in Hungary.
The number of active COVID-19 cases dropped by 4,404 to 97,752.
There are 3,649 COVID-19 patients in hospital (-20 d/d), with 258 of them on ventilators (+3 d/d).
Authorities tested 18,975 samples, 7.7% of which came back positive, down from 12% on the previous day.
Up to date, 175,283 people have received their COVID-19 jab in Hungary, 37,727 of whom got their second one, as well. This means that 5.48% of the population (9.77 mn) is vaccinated against COVID-19.
In terms of cumulative COVID-19 vaccination doses administered per 100 people, Hungary is at the bottom of the CEE ranking, with 1.94 doses as of 27 January, according to ourworldindata.org. Two days ago, Serbia was in the lead (5.32), followed by Slovenia (3.13), Romania (2.97), Poland (2.66), Czechia (2.21), Slovakia (2.11), and Hungary on the last place (1.94).
Globally, Israel is way ahead of any other country with more than half of its population vaccinated, followed by the United Arab Emirtates (29/100) and the United Kingdom (11.7/100).
