COVID-19 in Hungary: new cases lowest since September
Hungarian authorities confirmed 459 new coronavirus cases on Monday, increasing the total since last March to 360,877. The figure is the lowest for nearly five-months, since 9 September.
The relatively low number of new cases confirmed may have been partly due to the fact that the number of tests was also much lower than in previous days. Of the 5,531 tests, 8.3% came back positive on Monday, roughly in line with recent figures.
With 89, mostly elderly or chronic, patients succumbing to the disease, the death count rose to 12,113. 244,681 people have recovered and the number of active cases is 104,083.
There are 3,815 coronavirus patients in hospital, with 263 of them on ventilators. The decrease in both figures has stopped in recent days. 149,676 people have been vaccinated and 12,639 of them have already received a second shot. Vaccination of health and social workers will continue with vaccine shipments received this week, the official government website said.
Hungarian pandemic data are favourable and the outbreak is now under control, but maintaining discipline in virus defence is important as case numbers are still rising in several European countries, the government website said.
The government is likely to extend the lockdown this week.
