COVID-19 in Hungary: new cases lowest since September
The number of new cases was very low, below even the Christmas period’s level when testing was also very muted and the lowest since early September. The slow declining trend of recent days has therefore continued.
There were 111 fatalities in the past 24 hours, slightly more than in recent days, but the curve is expected to decline further as the spread of the virus slows.
The number of people in hospital and on ventilators have both decreased in recent weeks and are currently at 4,445 and 309, respectively.
The number of recoveries is 231,915 and the number of active cases is 109,841, although the latter is a poor statistical indicator and follows fresh developments with a lag. Nevertheless, the pandemic appears to be stagnating in Hungary based on numbers from the past 14 days, which increases the probability that the lockdown will soon be lifted at least partially.
A total of 129,689 people have been vaccinated so far in Hungary, and 1,643 people have already received their second shot. Most of the vaccinated are health workers, but the figure also includes 10,000 residents and workers in nursing homes. The ratio of vaccinated people is now 1.37%.
