COVID-19 in Hungary: 2,971 new cases on Thursday

Hungarian authorities confirmed 2,971 new coronavirus (COVID-19) infections on Thursday, while the number of fatalities in the past 24 hours was 108.The number of recovered patients in 150,102. There are 5,856 people treated in hospital, with 402 of them on ventilators, the official government website said.

Daily case numbers have remained low in recent days, probably due to the low number of tests applied in the Christmas period. However, the virus did not go away, and the number of new cases detected is now back at its earlier high level.

Authorities now detected nearly 3,000 cases on Thursday, 50% more than the previous day, with the number of tests nearly 1,000 less. Overall, 17% of the 17,390 tests applied were positive.

The number of fatalities in the past 24 hours was 108, with the seven-day average decreasing slightly.

The good news is that while the number of people in hospital has been rising for several days, it dropped by nearly 300 yesterday. This indicates that the number of fatalities may decrease in coming weeks.
