COVID-19 in Hungary: 6,197 new cases on Thursday

With the 6,197 new cases, the seven-day average decreased slightly to 4,735.

Although the number of fatalities was the same as the day before, the seven day-average dropped to 158, marking the fifth consecutive day of a downward trend.

The number of coronavirus patients being treated in hospital has shown a decline for the third day in a row, and the number of people receiving artificial ventilation also decreased yesterday.

Nevertheless, the daily figures give no cause for celebration as the high case number came from only 28,603 tests, for a high positivity rate of 21%. Of course, we still do not know how many rapid tests were applied as aggregated weekly data on that is expected only early next week.
Overall, it is too early to talk about a decline in the pandemic curve and an improvement in the virus situation, as these would require a more convincing decrease in daily case numbers.

As for regional distribution, the highest number of new cases was recorded in Budapest and Pest county yesterday, with 790 and 751 cases, respectively, followed by Hajdú-Bihar county with 405.
