COVID-19 in Hungary: new cases set new daily record
The number of daily new cases has never been this high before and is 39% above the average of the past 7 days, indicating a faster spread of the virus in Hungary despite tighter lockdown measures having been introduced a week ago. The total number of infections rose to 147,456.
The number of fatalities has fortunately not followed the increase in daily new cases and dipped below 100 at 93.
There are now 7,236 coronavirus patients being treated in hospital, with 582 of them on ventilators. Both figures have doubled in just 16 days.
As 34,010 people have recovered from the disease, the number of active cases is now 110,256, also double what it was 16 days ago.
In the past 24 hours, Szabocs-Szatmár-Bereg county reported the most new cases with 1,495, followed by Hajdú-Bihar with 867 and Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén with 860 new cases. Budapest “only” had 790 new cases yesterday but has had the highest number of new cases this past week along with Pest county.
Rather interestingly, the number of new cases in the past 24 hours (6,495) was higher than the number of tests (6,098).
If this morning’s data only reflected test results from the past 24 hours, then the positivity rate would be a whopping 107%. The anomaly is most likely due to a reporting error or a change in data disclosure practices.
