Hungarian F1 Grand Prix confirmed for July
The freshly released calendar at present only contains the first eight race weekends of the season, which was postponed in March and will only begin in July due to the coronavirus pandemic.
According to the calendar, which has been approved by the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA), the season will kick off with a double-header in Austria’s Red Bull Ring on the first two weekends of July, after which teams will travel to Hungary for the third round of the championship. Two weeks later, F1 will race in another double-header in Silverstone in the UK, followed by Spain, Belgium and Italy until early September.
"Due to the ongoing fluidity of the COVID-19 situation internationally, we will be finalising the details of the wider calendar and hope to publish that in the coming weeks with an expectation of having a total of 15-18 races before we complete our season in December,” Liberty Media said. "As stated previously we currently expect the opening races to be closed events but hope fans will be able to join our events again when it is safe to do so."
We will observe health regulations during the closed race in Hungary as we not only want to host a good race but also want everyone in the paddock to feel safe,
Zsolt Gyulay, president-CEO of race promoter Hungaroring Zrt., said in a statement.
