Hungary COVID-19 infections at 3,035
The daily number of new infections has not been this low for a month, and together with Saturday's low figure, this indicates that the epidemic is easing off in Hungary.
The 11 deceased on Sunday was in line with recent days. The raw mortality rate climbed to a new peak of 11.6%.
Starting today, authorities will release more detailed data, including the number of active infected (those who have been infected and have not yet recovered). At present, there are slightly more than 2,000 registered active infected people in Hungary, which means that only about half of them are in hospital. Beside the raw mortality rate, this also indicates that the efficiency of detection remains low. However, the epidemic in Hungary remains moderate, as even extrapolating from the number of deaths there can be no more than 30,000 infected in Hungary (using the globally accepted 1% actual mortality rate).
The government website also notes that the second phase of the coronavirus defense starts on Monday. The goal is to restart life in the country while avoiding a "boom" in infections. Movement restrictions in Budapest and Pest county remain in effect, while looser regulations have been introduced for the rest of the country. Keeping the required distance of at least 1.5m and covering faces in stores and public transport vehicles remains mandatory.
Regional data indicate a concentrated spread of the virus. The highest number of new infections were registered in the counties that have been the most active in recent weeks, in Zala (16), Komárom-Esztergom (5) and Fejér (4) counties, while Budapest (11) and Pest county (1) only accounted for a third of new infections on Sunday. There have been no cases reported in 15 counties.
