COVID-19 in Hungary: 2,855 new cases, on Tuesday

Hungarian authorities confirmed 2,855 new coronavirus (COVID-19) cases on Tuesday, increasing the total since last March to 410,129. The death toll rose to 14,552 after the disease claimed the lives of 102, mostly elderly or chronic, patients in the past 24 hours, the official government website said.

The number of new cases was nearing 3,000 following yesterday’s lower figure. The total number of COVID-19 cases registered since the beginning of the outbreak nearly a year ago is 410,129.

Daily fatalities were again above 100. The total number of fatalities in Hungary is 14,552.

There are currently 4,353 severe coronavirus cases in hospital, with 407 of them receiving artificial ventilation. The former number decreased by 299 from yesterday, while the latter rose by 11.

More than 23,000 tests were applied yesterday, with a 12% ratio of positive results.

So far, 471,004 people have been vaccinated in Hungary, and 208,846 of them already received the second dose as well, for a vaccination coverage of 4.8% and 2.1%, respectively.

General practitioners will begin vaccinating today using the Chinese Sinopharm vaccine. Each doctor will vaccinate 50 to 55 registered elderly people. The vaccination of chronic patients under 60 continues using the AstraZeneca vaccine, of which 10 doses are available per practice. Vaccination of the elderly will continue in the second half of this week using the Pfizer vaccine.
